For over 30 years the PI System has captured and stored high-volume time series data derived from sensor data connected to hundreds of different automation and process control systems from a diversity of suppliers. Today the Internet of Things (IoT) is offering new opportunities to transform businesses. Low cost sensors connected directly to low cost hardware and the cloud for advanced analytics provides new opportunities to gather impactful data. Data that can be leveraged for advanced analytics and operational insights to drive business transformations.
OSIsoft research has been working with Servature, an OSIsoft Connected Services Partner, to leverage the PI System and hardware technology from Intel and Qualcomm to investigate IoT applications. This presentation will share research results and the implications for a bi-directional data supply chain that leverages IoT. Demonstrations will include adding sensors to previously un-instrumented assets, and leveraging gateways and wireless connectivity to move data to a PI System operating in an Azure cloud for advanced predictive analytics and visualization with AzureML and Microsoft PowerBI."
Speaker
Dave Roberts
Mr. Roberts joined OSIsoft in May 2005. Today, as an OSIsoft Fellow and Principal for Smart Cities, he is focused on the deployment of the PI System as the data infrastructure connecting all of the critical physical infrastructures in a City's domain. As part of the Smart Cities initiatives, he has also been developing critical technology partnerships to operationalize IoT data with the PI system and analytics.
In his previous role as Vice President for Business Development, Mr. Roberts managed OSIsoft's various vertical industries, including Power, Transmission & Distribution, Oil & Gas, Metals&Mining, Chemicals, Pharmaceutical and other process industries. Mr. Roberts is also OSIsoft's Industry Principle for Renewable Power Generation, and continues to participate in many industry thought leadership groups including American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG) and most recently Sandia National Labs and the US Department of Energy. He remains very active in the renewable energy industry, and works with many works in both private and public sector initiatives regarding high-penetration renewable energy scenarios.
Prior to joining OSIsoft, he worked for wind power developer, owner and operator, SeaWest WindPower. As the Vice President Project Development for SeaWest, he was responsible for the development of hundreds of megawatts of wind farms in the western US. Following this role, Mr. Roberts became SeaWest's Senior Vice President of Strategy and Planning, leading to the eventual sale of SeaWest to the AES Corporation in 2005. During this period, SeaWest started-up and owned Prasentia, LLC. Mr. Roberts served as President of Prasentia, defining product and service strategies, launching the business, and conducting commercial transactions with end-use customers. Prasentia's main business was the development and implementation of Real-Time Wind Farm Management Systems, including Wind Farm SCADA systems and Management/Enterprise Level systems. Prasentia, and its Intellectual Property, were acquired by AES in the SeaWest transaction.
Mr. Roberts holds a B.A. International Relations from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and an M.B.A. International Management from the Fisher Graduate School of Business at the Monterey Institute of International Studies."
