SmartVT is a new initiative in Vermont to demonstrate the advantages of applying analytical techniques and energy program management to the data emerging from Vermont's Smart Grid. Several Vermont businesses, including manufacturing sites hospitals, schools, commercial facilities and ski resorts have agreed to collaborate by "socializing" their electrical meter data and committing to energy-reduction targets. Green Mountain Power is providing data to IBM for analysis using the PI System. Smart Grids are expected to help consumers understand their usage in a way that will affect usage patterns by reducing system demands, improving efficiency and providing a financial return. SmartVT's goal is to demonstrate these benefits. Participants are business analysts, facility operators and administrators—not your typical PI System user. Consequently, data and analytical results must be presented in an easily understood format via reports and self-service business intelligence (BI) tools. Attend this talk to understand the potential for socializing Smart Grid data.
