Ethylene crackers are one of the most difficult units to model. Technip Energies proprietary SPYRO® program is the industry standard for modeling ethylene furnace operations. Modeling this industrial process becomes arduous as the intricate interplay of thousands of chemical reactions must be painstakingly accounted for. While SPYRO® simulates the most important part of the ethylene production process, the furnace model needs to be incorporated into the larger ethylene plant flowsheet. SPYRO® was originally a stand-alone design tool that has now been integrated into a variety of convenient platforms, among them AVEVA Process Optimization, AVEVA PRO/II Simulation and AVEVA Dynamic Simulation. A streamlined interface with integrated SPYRO® will simplify the overall mass balance and simulation of an ethylene plant, making the process more efficient and effective.

Eric has been with Technip Energies for over 35 years and is currently Directory of Technology Development for the Claremont, California office. Eric manages activities related to improvements in Technip Energies core technologies, including hydrogen/syngas plants, fluidized bed reactors and ethylene production processes. Eric is also actively engaged in technology developments in renewable chemistry and sustainability as they relate to the current Energy Transition. Eric has taught courses at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and the University of Southern California (USC). He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University in California, and his Ph. D. from the University of Ghent in Belgium.
